Greek Deputy Minister of Health: „This type of beds are for their own protection.“

The Greek Deputy Minister of Health Katarina Papapkosta visited KEPEP Lechainon on November 29. As a result of her visit she has concluded that keeping disabled children in cages is OK - she says that is what "Greek experts" told her. There was no mention about what qualifications these experts.

Read about her visit here (in Greek).

Following this visit BBC world radio aired an interview with Katarina Papakosta and Steven Allen from the Mental Disability Advocacy Center on December 18.

Katerina Papakosta:
„The scientific community [...told me that] this type of beds are for their own protection.“

We agree with Steven Allen who said:
„Anyone that argues that placing a child in a cage is in their best interest is quite frankly on a different planet.“
