On
June 26 a demontration against the situation in KEPEP coorganized by
the group of autonomous Ebros Theatre "Against Police
Violence/Arbitrary actions and Fascistization of
Society" (http://www.embros.gr/) took place in front of the
Ministry of Work and Social Welfare.

We
met and delivered the petition of Embros group (find it here) and the
position paper of our petition to :
a)
Deputy Minister of Labour, Mrs Theano Fotiou, who
-
Says the Ministry is waiting for scientific answer on the use of cages,
-
Says they changed the whole board of directors of KEPEP and put the director of Lechaina special school among others in the board,
-
Says there is lack of diapers and basic things,
-
is open to a new voluntary program and the help of official/unofficial groups of citizens.
-
is open to the help of other experts and organisations like Lumos.
b) Assistant to the Minister of Health, Mr Vaggelis Avgoulas, who
-
Asked to review the case and arranged a new meeting on Thur 16/7 to give us a detailed answer (Update: in the follow up meeting they said KEPEP is under the complete juristiction of Ministry of Labour, Secretary of Welfare, but they are willing to offer assistance through the hospitals of Ilia Prefacture the Ministry is in charge of).

said that there is an ongoing committee to compose a treatee on the rights of the patients.
We specified to both how important it is for insitutions to remain open to public and noted the lack of a National Plan for Disability.
